SAA-C03 in 30 Days: A No-Fluff Plan to Pass the AWS Solutions Architect Associate Exam
One month is enough if you stop watching videos and start doing timed reps. This is the exact study system: diagnostic, high-leverage services, daily practice, and final simulation.
The 30-day rule for SAA-C03
Passing SAA-C03 is not about memorizing hundreds of AWS services. It is about recognizing architectural trade-offs under time pressure. With one month left, your job is active recall and targeted review, not another 40-hour video course.
According to the [AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate Exam Guide](https://aws.amazon.com/certification/certified-solutions-architect-associate/), SAA-C03 is a 65-question, 130-minute exam with a passing score of 720. The four exam domains are weighted, so your study time should follow the scoring model:
Domain 1: Design Secure Architectures — 30%
Domain 2: Design Resilient Architectures — 26%
Domain 3: Design High-Performing Architectures — 24%
Domain 4: Design Cost-Optimized Architectures — 20%
The high-signal study stack
Do not spread your attention across ten resources. Use one primary course, one practice exam bank, and AWS documentation for gap-filling.
**One course**: Adrian Cantrill's SAA-C03 course or Stephane Maarek's Udemy course. Both cover the exam, but Cantrill goes deeper on architecture; Maarek is more concise.
**One practice bank**: Tutorials Dojo practice exams in timed mode. They are closer to the real exam than many other banks because the questions are scenario-based and include detailed answer explanations.
**AWS free resources**: the [Well-Architected Framework](https://aws.amazon.com/architecture/well-architected/), the shared responsibility model, and the core service FAQs.
Week 1: Force-rank your weak domains
Take a 20–30 question diagnostic in timed mode before you study anything else. Score it by domain, not just by total.
If you score below 70% on Domain 1, start with IAM, security groups, NACLs, KMS, and network segmentation. If Domain 2 is weak, focus on multi-AZ, failover, backups, and disaster recovery. If Domain 4 is weak, focus on EC2 pricing models, S3 storage classes, and cost monitoring.
Week 2: Deep-dive only high-leverage services
These services recur in SAA-C03 scenarios:
**IAM**: roles, policies, cross-account access, and the principle of least privilege
**S3**: storage classes, lifecycle rules, replication, encryption, presigned URLs
**VPC**: subnets, route tables, NAT, VPC endpoints, transit gateway
**EC2**: Auto Scaling, load balancing, instance types, placement groups
**RDS/Aurora**: Multi-AZ, read replicas, failover, backups
**DynamoDB**: global tables, DAX, on-demand vs provisioned capacity
**Lambda/API Gateway**: serverless patterns, event-driven architectures
**SQS/SNS/EventBridge**: decoupling, message durability, retry behavior
**CloudFront and Global Accelerator**: caching, TLS, global routing
**Organizations/Control Tower**: multi-account governance
**Cost Explorer and Budgets**: cost visibility and alerting
Do not study specialty services such as machine learning, blockchain, or quantum technologies in the last month.
Week 3: Daily timed practice blocks
Complete 20–30 timed questions every weekday. Review every incorrect answer and every correct answer you were uncertain about. Keep a running log with three columns: service, decision pattern, and why you missed it.
This is the part that moves your score. Practice tests create the retrieval reps, but the review creates the learning.
Week 4: Simulate exam day and compress notes
Take at least two full 65-question practice exams in a single sitting with no breaks. Simulate the 130-minute time limit. After each simulation, review only your weak areas.
In the final 48 hours, read the AWS shared responsibility model and the Well-Architected Framework pillar summaries. Do not start new topics.
