Architecting Solutions on AWS

This is the core of the program. The labs push you to design multi-tier architectures, choose between serverless and container-based services, and apply the [AWS Well-Architected Framework](https://aws.amazon.com/architecture/well-architected/) to availability, security, performance, cost, and operational excellence. You will spend a lot of time thinking about trade-offs rather than just service definitions.

Introduction to Designing Data Lakes on AWS

The data lake course is the part many architects skip until they need it. It covers data ingestion, storage, cataloging, and analytics patterns with services such as Amazon S3, AWS Glue, Lake Formation, and Athena. For SAP-C02, this matters because the exam expects you to match data architecture to requirements, not just know what each service does.

Exam Prep: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional

The final course maps to the SAP-C02 exam guide. It covers question structure, domain weighting, and common scenarios around migration, multi-account governance, cost optimization, and hybrid networking. It is useful, but it should not be your only practice source.

What you will actually learn

Across the courses, the useful skills cluster into four areas:

**Identity and access:** IAM policies, roles, permission boundaries, AWS Organizations, and service control policies.

**Networking:** VPC peering, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, Direct Connect, VPN, and DNS design.

The certificate is not a substitute for experience. SAP-C02 is an expert-level exam that tests judgment under ambiguity. Course labs are guided, so they remove the messy parts of production architecture: unclear requirements, legacy systems, budget constraints, and operational failures.

The Coursera program also does not include the AWS exam fee. The professional certification exam is typically $300 USD and is booked separately through AWS and its delivery partner. Completion of the Coursera certificate does not make you AWS certified.

Finally, the built-in exam prep is helpful but not enough for most people. You should still use timed practice exams, read AWS whitepapers, watch technical deep dives, and build or review real systems.

Who should take it

Treat the certificate as a spine, not the whole body. For each module, build a small side project that forces you to make the same trade-off in your own AWS account. For example, after the networking sections, build a multi-VPC design with Transit Gateway and justify why you did not use peering.

When you finish, schedule the SAP-C02 exam only after you pass repeated timed practice exams with margin. The goal is not to collect a Coursera certificate. The goal is to make better architecture decisions.
